If you’re a golfer looking to lower your handicap, you know there are many things to consider. Frequent practice can help you get into the groove and hone in on a consistent swing. Working on your short game is crucial to shedding some strokes from your score. The right set of clubs maintains a more consistent game. But, what about golf shoes? Many golfers fail to realize the importance a pair of golf shoes can play in their game. Consider the following when looking for a new pair of golf cleats:
First, consider how often you play. Decent footwear will range anywhere from below fifty to a few hundred dollars. If you are only a casual player, you may not want to spend an exorbitant amount of cash on your cleats. If you play more than once a week or take your game very seriously, it may be worth the extra cash for a top pair.
Next, you’ll need to check out the selection. Head down to the pro shop and try on a few different pairs of golf shoes to determine your preference. Make sure you know your size before you go and be sure to try on a few different pairs to find the perfect fit. You don’t want any discomfort while working towards your best game. Walk around the shop a bit before you commit to purchasing a new pair. Make sure you do some research on the different materials. Some golfers prefer leather, while others like synthetic. Is waterproof material important to you? Asking these important questions can help you make the best choice.
Keeping these tips in mind will make finding the right golf shoes much easier, and they may even improve your game!
They’re young, athletic and eager to hit the greens, but how do you introduce a child to the game of golf? It’s easier than you think, but the number one factor to consider is fun. If they start and don’t like the game, don’t push them too hard. Golf is meant to be fun. Kids won’t learn the proper technique, swing and discipline if they don’t learn to enjoy it.
Once you know your child will enjoy the game, it’s time to invest in a junior golf set. They come in all makes, models, styles and colors to fit any child's personality. After you’ve selected the right set, it’s time to start learning the principals of this unique game. First, kids should learn the etiquette, rules and honor of this age-old game. This is especially important with competition that’s based, in part, off of the honor system.
Next, you should find an instructor. PGA.com is a great place to start. Reaching out to local golf courses is another great option. They always have a golf pro on staff to teach children the basics. They’ll go over the finer points of the swing, the discipline, reading the green, patience, putting, and more. A good instructor is just as important as finding the perfect junior golf set. You will need the tools and the expertise to master the game.
The last and most important step is practice. Take that new junior golf set and hit the green as much as possible. This game is about honed skill, wrapped in determination and sprinkled with dedication. It’s about combining these life skills into a fun game that can teach self-confidence. Start swinging today!
Beware: Not all golf gloves are created equal.
When it comes to selecting the right glove, there are many things to consider: Do you develop blisters after tightly gripping the club? Is durability and comfort a top priority, or do you prefer something that absorbs perspiration?
At Carl’s Golfland, we offer a plethora of golf gloves that can help address exactly what your game needs. For instance, if price isn't an issue and you're looking for flexibility, leather gloves are one of the most preferred options. On the other hand, there are also durable and flexible synthetic gloves that work well and are less expensive. Keep in mind that these may need to be replaced over time. Take time to research more options on our site.
It's important for you to know your preferences before you start shopping. Browse our site and find the right golf gloves for you, today!

Modern technology has changed the way golf is played. Superlight drivers, for instance, increase swing speeds while low-spin bombers improve seriously bad spin or slices. Now there’s the adjustable driver, a golf club that with just a few twists of a wrench, can change face angle, loft, lie, and angle, all without the hassle of meeting with a professional clubfitter or buying a new driver! Carl’s GolfLand offers the top adjustable drivers of 2014, including:
• TaylorMade SLDR
• TaylorMade Jetspeed
• Callaway Big Bertha and BB Alpha
• Cobra Bio Cell
• Adams XTD
While each driver offers unique advantages, one thing is certain: Adjustable drivers can improve comfort, swing, and distance. According to TaylorMade, 70 percent of adjustable golf club owners use the adjustable advantage, and 54 percent of players see a “noticeable” improvement from day one.
The TaylorMade SLDR, for instance, uses easy and intuitive technology that offers 21 different weight-tuning options for optimum ball flight. Furthermore, it’s lower CG feature offers a high launch/low spin combo never seen before in golf! Meanwhile, the SLDR’s sister driver, the TaylorMade Jetspeed, is the first adjustable driver to incorporate Speed Pocket technology with optimal aerodynamic fittings that promote lower spin rates for longer drives.
If your prefer Callaway drivers, Callaway’s Big Bertha Alpha Adjustable Driver offers revolutionary Gravity Core and a Hyper Speed Face, which allows adjustment for unwanted spin, and increases or decreases in loft.
Also available in 5 unique colors is the Cobra BiO Cell adjustable driver. It not only maximizes driving distances, but it also offers 8 driver settings for quick adjustments in loft and slice.
Finally, the Adams XTD adjustable driver’s new cut-thru slot technology offers maximum ball speeds for the longest and straightest drive on the market.
The choice is yours. Carl’s GolfLand offers the top adjustable drivers of 2014. Finding one for your bag is up to you.
As the new golf season approaches, many of the industry’s top brands are releasing new golf clubs. From lightweight drivers to well-balanced putters to versatile irons, manufacturers have pulled out all the stops in making these clubs the most advanced in the history of the sport. The following sheds a little light on a few of the new golf clubs you can add to your bag to take your game to the next level this season.
Taylormade Jetspeed Driver
This driver incorporates the new Speed Pocket technology that increases ball speed off the tee. Players are able to adjust the loft up to 3-degrees on the club, and its low, forward CG location creates low spin rates that result in longer distance.
Callaway Big Bertha Driver
The latest edition of this driver is fully adjustable and lighter than ever before. With an adjustable perimeter-weighting slide at the rear of the club, players can achieve optimal accuracy.
Odyssey Versa Jailbird Putter
Designed for better alignment when putting, this putter comes equipped with a revolutionary alignment system that includes varying colors patterns to assist players in staying square during their putts.
Titleist AP1 714 Irons
These irons have been designed for players to achieve more distance, while maintaining control.
Nike Covert 2.0 Driver
Nike’s newest driver is the first of its kind. It allows players to change the face angle and loft of the club separately to fit their style of swing. And its weight distribution feature can increase ball speed regardless of where you strike it on the face.
Adams Idea Hybrid Iron Set
The set comes with three new golf clubs, which have been built with thin, spring-like faces that are designed to create a higher launch angle for increased distance.
Cobra Bio Cell Driver
The new driver for 2014 from Cobra is for players who want to get maximum distance off the tee. It utilizes MyFly8 technology, which allows golfers to make quick adjustments based on the type of shot they are preparing to hit.

When it comes to a PGA membership, it takes more than raw talent and a nice pair of men's golf shoes to gain entry. This year, it’s going to be even harder to become a member of the PGA Tour. Since 1965, the PGA has hosted Q-School qualifier events, or more commonly known as Qualifying School. Today, there is a new developmental circuit called the Web.com Tour, a tour sponsored by the Jacksonville Internet services provider. It is the highest ranked developmental tour for men’s golf at the international level.
So, if you want to qualify for a PGA membership, it’s going to start with the Web.com Tour; some professional golf apparel and gear wouldn’t hurt though. First become a Web.com Tour member through Q-School to participate in this year’s tournaments, then rack up enough points to graduate or earn a Tour card by advancing to the finals. The top 25 earners will then be invited to join the club.
There are other ways to make it to the big leagues though; for the fast track, win a ‘battlefield promotion.’ If you win three tournaments on the Web.com tour, you are automatically and instantly admitted as a full member of the PGA Tour for the remainder of the season, and the next season. You can also win a membership if you get into an official PGA Tour game, generally through a sponsorship: finish on top to win your membership. It’s also possible to become a temporary member with the PGA. This is a special consideration for someone who has previously qualified in one of the before mentioned ways.
If you’re looking to qualify this year, you’ll also be up against any PGA Tour golfers who failed to qualify in the FedEx Cup playoffs. If you think you have what it takes, get out the golf gear and see if you could make it all the way to the top.

Golf’s elite from around the world
gather this time every year to compete in the, by invite only, Masters
tournament. Founded in 1934 by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, the tournament
was put in place to better the game of golf and to display the game at its
The event was first held in 1934 in Augusta, Georgia at the newly constructed
Augusta National. For the first five years of its existence, the event was
better known as the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, until the name was
officially changed in 1939 and the Masters was born.
Since the Masters
inception, elite amateur and professional golfers arrive sporting top of the
line golf apparel and showing off
their skills in order to win the Masters Trophy, a gold medal, and the famous
green jacket. From April 11 to 14, the tradition continues as golf’s elite compete
for golf’s greatest championship.
There are a few ways to
qualify for the invitational:victories at the US Open, British Open, PGA
Championship and Players Championship earn you a spot. . There are also five
amateur championships every year that allow for six amateurs to be invited to
the Masters, making up a small portion of the Masters field. Being among this
year’s or the previous year’s top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking also earns
golfers a chance to battle for the most
coveted piece of golf apparel in the business, the green jacket.
Generally, about 90 to
100 golfers accept the invitation to play in the Masters Tournament. This year,
there are 93 who will test their concentration and skill against each other, 19
of which are past champions of the Masters tournament.
The Masters Tournament is
steeped in tradition, and continually shows us the ever growing quality of golfers
worldwide. The winner might be the best-of-the-best for only a year, but his
name and performance will be remembered for as long as the Masters Tournament
is held. History makes the Masters what it is today, but who can argue it’s
also history in the making.

If you are looking for a new driver this year, the TaylorMade R11 driver will get your attention fast. The stark white crown and black face of the driver really get noticed. TaylorMade is continuing their progression in the "R Series" drivers and the R11 is by far the best one yet. We were able to hit the R11 driver last week in our stores and pretty much every employee was blown away. The sheer amount of customization options on this driver is incredible.
You can change the loft, face angle, and flight path of the club with 3 easy adjustments. I changed the driver from neutral to a slight draw in about 20 seconds...very easy to use. The white finish is actually very cool looking, especially if you put it down right next to a driver with a traditional black crown.
The TaylorMade R11 Driver is available in early February and we are taking pre-orders for this driver in-store and online.
Has anyone had a chance to see this driver in person yet? It will be a game-changer!
Black Friday is just around the corner and Nike is set to release the new 2011 Nike SQ Machspeed Black driver. A black driver on Black Friday...
The new Nike SQ Machspeed Black driver is available in a round or square head-shape and features Nike's patented STR8-Fit hosel. This technology allows golfers allows the golfer to put the head in 8 possible positions resulting in 8 different shot shapes. So if you have a tendency to fade (or slice!) the ball...you can adjust the clubhead to a closed position to square up the club face at impact for a straighter and longer drive. The SQ Machspeed Black driver has a very sleek look (with the black head and face) and really sets up great at address. If your looking for a really easy to hit driver with full adjustability, I would recommend looking at the Nike SQ Machspeed Black drivers today.
Nike SQ Machspeed Black driver is released on 11/26/10 and sells for $299.99 with free shipping from Carl's Golfland!
If you were one of the million (or so) golfers that were looking for Ecco Street Premiere Golf Shoes this summer but had no luck...your luck has changed. We just received a new shipment of the Ecco Street Premiere Golf Shoes in today (10/27/10). These shoes are available online (with Free Shipping!) and in-store in 4 great colors. Check them out below:
Bison - Black/Chili - Moonless/Marine Blue - White/Blue
We don't expect these to last very long...so get your Ecco Street Premiere Golf Shoes while you can!
Looking for a new driver? Look no further than the new Callaway Diablo Octane Driver. The Diablo Octane driver is 8 yard longer than titanium (according to Callaway player testing 2010). The new Diablo Octane driver is fueled by Forged Composite, a unique new material from Callaway that allows superior distribution of clubhead mass, compared with all-titanium drivers.
We were able to see and try out this driver last week and I can honestly tell you that it was a hit with our staff. The shape of the head is great and really exudes confidence at address. Probably the biggest compliment was the sound...most other composite drivers have a "dead" sound but the Diablo Octane did not. It sounded just like a traditional titanium driver. As far as performance goes, I was very impressed. The Diablo Octane was just as long or longer than any other driver we tested that day.
The Callaway Diablo Octane Driver is being released on November 12th, 2010 and be pre-ordered online or in-store.
Did anyone watch the TaylorMade new product launch webcast on Thursday 9/9/10? This is the first time, that I can at least remember, that a golf manufacturer has announced a major product launch via webcast online. I though it was pretty cool...only like 12 minutes long. Short and sweet!
The biggest announcement of the TaylorMade webcast is the new 2011 TaylorMade Burner 2.0 iron. The Burner 2.0 iron set is replacing the extremely popular Burner 09 irons. The Burner 2.0 irons will be released in the beginning of October 2010. You can pre-order them now if you'd like to...
We will have more details and a review of the Burner 2.0 irons in the next couple weeks!
